Він зазначив, що література Франка, і зокрема “Захар Беркут”, є прикладом світової літератури. Підтекст. Він був запрошений стояти шановним стовпом посеред декорацій села, демонструвати потрібні емоції та ставати в потрібні пози.
Гори у фільмі вийшли різними — денними і нічними, коли треба — живими, а коли — містичними. Продюсерами фільму з американського боку виступили Джефф Райс, Юрій Карновський і Раджа Коллінз. Проте, фінал картини, нехай навіть і з кончиною Захара Беркута, однозначно оптимістичний, у ньому відчувається віра у щасливе майбутнє, у можливість такого майбутнього… Це завжди знання того, де стоїть камера, як працює світло. Зрозуміють їх за кордоном чи ні — не так вже й важливо. «Цінності бренду збігаються з цінностями фільму. Львів’яни першими в Україні побачать цей фільм вже 7–го жовтня.
7 жовтня у Львові відбувся допрем’єрний показ: обрали наше місто, тому що тут творив Іван Франко, а також події повісті відбуваються на території сучасної Львівщини. Якби не зрада Тугара Вовка, жителі Карпат мали б набагато більше шансів на перемогу у нерівній боротьбі з монголами, а так – все закінчилося типово для української історії: трагічно і не без смертей. Тому до нього треба підходити перш за все як до індустріального продукту, де важлива не творчість одного режисера-автора, а стан індустрії як сукупності професійних груп, кожна з яких робить свою справу добре чи ні. Бюджет “Захара Беркута” 113 млн гривень, з який 30 млн надало Державне агентство України з питань кіно.
Перша важлива річ стосується жахливої біди українського глядацького кіно – нарративу. Навіть якщо уявити, що сценарії цього кіно є зразком когнітивно зрозумілої оповіді у логічній послідовності сцен, то до екрану вони доходять ніби після дикої вечоринки у Лас-Вегасі, загубивши половину сцен (не будемо казати, де й як), та випадковим чином помінявши місцями ті, що залишились. Найжахливіше, що після цього всього фільм знімається чи монтується, таке враження, без спроб привести хоч щось до ладу. Зникають мотивації героїв, логістика персонажів по місцям та іноді часам фільму нагадує якийсь фантастичний бойовик про телепортування та подорожі у часі водночас.
